From its very beginning, St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church  has been affiliated with the synodical body, The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Prior to organization, Lutheran worship services were conducted occasionally in local school houses or homes by pastors from Bergholz or St. Johnsburg. In October of 1865 St. Peter was formally organized under supervision of. Reverend Hugo Hanser. Two acres of land were purchased on Church Road in Cambria, New York, where the church still stands today.
