Welcome to St. Peter's Educational Resource Center! This volunteer-driven community education program is designed to stay flexible in providing a wide variety of activities and academic opportunities for students of all ages in our community, within a learning community which emphasizes gospel-centered Christian character development. St. Peter's Educational Resource Center operates in coordination with St. Peter Lutheran School, with a focus on educational opportunities which are an asset to both programs. Program components are developed based on expressed interest and instructor availability, in cooperation with the other educational programs at St. Peter under our Board of Education. Classes and Activities
We have offered classes which continue quarterly throughout the year as well as special short sessions which have been more flexible in timing and duration. Our K-12 Academic and Enrichment classes include such courses as Writing Classes, Elementary and High School Latin, High School Spanish, Math Enrichment for all ages, Science Enrichment, Gym classes, and more. Class sizes are limited, and registration is on a first come, first served basis, so please register early! If you have any questions about the content of classes offered, please ask. Course grade levels are guidelines. Based on course descriptions you may use discretion in choosing classes for your children, subject to instructor approval. Some classes will have prerequisite requirements. Our classes and activities appeal to a variety of audiences. Please feel free to browse through the classes and activities that most appeal to you! Instrumental Lessons
Strings Program: Violin, Viola, Cello, or String Bass for grades Kindergarten and up (age 5 minimum).
Woodwind / Brass / Percussion Program: Students may choose to study any of the following band instruments, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, or Drums. Students are typically able to start on a woodwind or brass instrument once their front permanent teeth are developed. (Usually by 4th Grade) Piano Lessons are being offered on Wednesday afternoons for beginning through early intermediate students. Parents & Siblings Welcome
Parents & non-participating children are welcome to stay on site during classes. We have areas available for small children to play under parent supervision, an outdoor playground and walking area, quiet work areas for one-on-one instruction as space allows, and community resources not far away for errands such as the library, post office, coffee shop, etc. If you have specific needs please let us know and we will do all we can to help!
One-Time Educational Events
We host one-time educational events periodically with guest presenters or centered around themes. Past events include Mobile Dome Planetarium, Weather Day, Ed-Ventures, Ft. Niagara’s “The Gold-Laced Coat,” etc. Please join our email list to receive information as events are arranged.

Program Development
We work closely with our day school staff in coordinating classes, events, and special services to maintain both program quality and access to professional resources. The learning environment is closely monitored so that it is pleasant and productive for both instructors and students.
If you are interested in the development (or return!) of a particular class or event, we would be happy to investigate the feasibility of your idea now or in the future. Tutoring Available
Tutoring in a variety of subject areas is available at $10 per half hour and will be available through our certified teaching staff at the Pre-K and Kindergarten day school or through other affiliated instructors.
Reading and Math tutoring is available for PreK through 6th grade. Middle School Math tutoring, Algebra 1 Math tutoring, and Spanish tutoring is also available on an individual basis or in a small group setting. Call or email for more information. Spring Standardized Testing
In the spring we will be offering the IOWA Test of Basic Skills on site for grades 3 through 12 in coordination with our diagnostician. We work hard to provide a pleasant small group environment for test takers. Other tests may be offered on a case by case basis. A registration form due by March 23, 2012 can be downloaded here.
Fall Screening Test
We periodically offer the Monroe Sherman Group Screening Test through our diagnostician, who administers this 30-minute basic screening test to students in grades 3 & up. This test gives a brief overview of a students reading and arithmetic levels, as well as their eye-hand coordination and auditory and visual processing skills. A brief, informal report will include any recommendations for educational strategies that might benefit your child at a remedial or accelerated level, as well as referral for further testing if appropriate. Consultation
We have a network of educators willing to consult on education-related issues. In addition, we have established a relationship with a trained diagnostician to provide diagnostic testing and prescriptive referral services targeting both remedial and accelerated students.
